South Carolina Book Awards

All of our students have the opportunity to participate in the South Carolina Picture Book Award or South Carolina Children’s Book Award programs that are sponsored by the South Carolina Association of School Librarians. Kindergarten, first, and second grade students will read/listen to the twenty Picture Book Award nominees and vote for their favorite book. Third through fifth graders may read at least five of the Children’s Book Award nominees by February to be eligible to vote for their favorite book. Students around the state vote for the favorite book, and the winners are announced in March each year.

What are you reading?

New books are constantly appearing on the library's shelves.  Be sure to check out some of the new series we have in the library!

Mrs. Starks recommends...

  • The Girl from Felony Bay by John Thompson--This Children's Book Award nominee is a page-turning tale of Abbey, a tomboy, tries to figure out the mystery surrounding her father's accident and his being accused of a crime he didn't commit. Along with her new BFF, she goes for an adventure in the South Carolina low country.
  • Sky Jumpers  by Peggy Eddleman--If you like science fiction and imagining what could happen in the future, you'll love this book.  Hope and her friends in White Rock have to survive in a world that has been torn apart by war where most our our technological inventions are gone.  Their lives aren't without adventure, though.  Read Sky Jumpers to find out about amazing adventures and how to survive "Bomb's Breath"!
We have e-books that you can read anywhere!  Just visit our Follett Shelf from your computer, tablet, or mobile device.
